The Ellerslie Flower Show attracted a crowd of 75,000 garden lovers this year.
Chief executive Vicki Salmon said the five-day show, which finished yesterday, had "exceeded all expectations."
The 1999 show attracted about 65,000 people.
"The quality of exhibits has been outstanding, the weather has pretty much held out for us, and the people have just kept on coming," she said.
Proceeds from the show will be donated to charity.
There had been a lively atmosphere throughout the show, particularly on the final day, with many couples and families attending, Ms Salmon said.
"There are more blokes around this year, too.
"Mind you, most of them are carrying something."
Ms Salmon was looking forward to a sleep-in and rest after another "wonderful, chaotic show."
Where would she rest? Where else, the garden of course.
