People with psychiatric problems being cared for by a Maori trust would be better off elsewhere - "anywhere else" - says a former staff member.
He Putea Atawhai Trust operates so far back in the "dark ages" it is not funny, says the woman, who does not want to be identified.
Waitemata Health has been trying unsuccessfully to remove around 20 people from trust premises in West Auckland after the Health Funding Authority axed the trust's money in July, claiming breach of contract.
The woman says that while the staff looked after clients well, financial support was never there. "There was supposed to be weekly comfort money ... for the clients; that was far and few between."
Clothing was always secondhand and sometimes there was no money for essentials, such as sanitary ware and incontinence pads. Because there were no programmes for clients they watched TV all day long.
