Golfer David Smail, a two-time winner on the Japanese circuit this season, is a confirmed starter for the $1.2 million Clearwater Classic golf tournament in Christchurch from March 6-9.
Also confirmed for New Zealand's richest tournament are teenage sensation Eddie Lee, left-hander Gareth Paddison and Greg Turner.
Smail and Lee would be fantastic drawcards for the tournament, tournament general manager Mike Godinet said today.
"David had a phenomenal year in Japan where he finished sixth on their order of merit and earned about $1.4 million.
"He is now ranked 84th in the world, the only two New Zealanders ahead of him are Michael Campbell (19th) and Phil Tataurangi (75th).
"Being from Christchurch, Eddie will attract some of the biggest galleries."
Lee, competing as an amateur, won an Asian Tour professional tournament in Korea last May. He has since turned professional.
Paddison tied for 34th in this year's Clearwater Classic.
"Greg Turner's availability is also a great bonus. He showed in Australia earlier this month that he is still a force and even though he will miss the New Zealand Open in January, he is looking forward to the Clearwater."
The total field for the Clearwater Classic, an USPGA-sanctioned event, will include 73 from the United States, 73 from the Australasian tour and 10 invitees.
