Day two of the Rally of New Zealand started this morning with the number of withdrawals climbing to 20 after the elimination of another five cars.
Those eliminated include Waikuku's Stumpy Holmes and Auckland's Mark Tapper with failed gearboxes.
Belgian driver Bob Colsoul's car also suffered mechanical failure, as did New Plymouth's Glenn Smith.
All four were driving Mitsubishi Lancer cars.
The fifth withdrawal was Auckland's Bruce Hibbert-Warburton with mechanical failure in his Subaru Impreza.
Fifty-nine cars started day two.
