Del Bosco flew through the air upside down before desperately trying to reset himself from the unintentional backflip.
The 35-year-old, who was competing in his third Winter Olympics, then landed on his right hip before skidding across the snow.
A Canadian team official reported earlier that Del Bosco had suffered a broken pelvis, before revealing further examination would be required.
As the heats continued, France's Terence Tchiknavorian and Austria's Christoph Wahrstoette were also taken away on stretchers with severe injuries.
