BMW Berlin Marathon - 24 September 2017

Paul Martelletti was the best of a large contingent of Kiwi runners who took part in the 44th running of the Berlin marathon. Martelletti finished 24th in 2:17:10. He has a best of 2:16:49 from Berlin in 2011 where he was 14th. Last year in Berlin he was placed 20th running 2:16:58. Daniel Wallis ran a 32 second PB finishing 37th in 2:19:24. Likewise Tony Payne ran a career best substantially improving on his 2:24:55 in Rotterdam in 2015, with 44th place in 2:19:39.

David Ridley cut three minute off his PB on the Gold Coast in July, finishing 53rd in 2:21:58.

Other New Zealanders under three hours were Jono Jackson 2:30:30 (120), Mike Lichwark 2:33:39 (158) PB, Adam Dustin 2:51:09 (764), Andrew Dewar 2:52:58 (896).

In the women Emma Bassett 3:21:58 (323) and Frances Gourdie 3:33:30 (556). A total of 64 New Zealanders competed.

Rio Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya won in 2:03:32, 14 seconds ahead of Ethiopian Guye Adola. Gladys Cherono of Kenya 2014 world half marathon champion was first woman in 2:20:23, 18 seconds ahead of Ethiopian Ruti Aga.
