The door to national selection might be slightly ajar for many fringe players following the recent nationals in New Plymouth.

Former New Zealand representative Selina Goddard was back to her best on the national stage, claiming the women's singles title.

Black Jacks coach Sharon Sims says Goddard was particularly impressive.

Sims says Goddard wasn't selected for the recent world championships but bounced back at the nationals which is what selectors want to see.

Up and coming player Tayla Bruce was another who Sims says showed a lot of promise.
