Celtic wins 100th trophy in Glasgow club's 129-year history

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) " Celtic won the 100th major trophy in the Glasgow club's 129-year history by beating Aberdeen 3-0 in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday.

It gave Brendan Rodgers his first trophy in management during his first season in charge of Celtic after previously missing out on silverware, most notably with Liverpool.

Midfielders Tom Rogic and James Forrest scored in the first half at Hampden Park, Scotland's national stadium. Striker Moussa Dembele converted from the penalty spot in the 64th minute after Forrest was fouled by Anthony O'Connor.

Celtic now switches its focus back to the quest for a domestic treble. The team has an eight-point lead in the Scottish Premiership in its bid for a sixth successive title and is yet to open its Scottish Cup campaign.

"There's still a lot of improvement in the team in terms of how we play so that's nice," Rodgers said. "But we have something tangible to show for our work."
