Top Hungarian swimmers call for new federation leadership

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) " Three-time Olympic champion Katinka Hosszu and several other top Hungarian swimmers are again calling for a change of leadership at the Hungarian Swimming Federation.

Two coaches and seven swimmers, including Olympic champion Daniel Gyurta and Olympic bronze medalist Boglarka Kapas, joined Hosszu in Monday's petition saying the federation's "undemocratic system in no way serves the interests of Hungarian swimming" and that urgent changes are needed ahead of next year's world championships in Budapest.

The federation said in a statement that the swimmers' claims were "baseless," that its financial management was "perfectly transparent," and pointed to Hosszu and her American coach and husband Shane Tusup, who also signed the petition, as being behind the discontent.

It also called for a truce until after the world championships.
