Spanish authorities release Legia fans involved in violence

MADRID (AP) " Spanish authorities say nine Legia Warsaw fans detained before the Champions game against Real Madrid have been released but are not allowed to leave the country pending an investigation.

Two are suspected of using violence while committing a robbery and seven are suspected of being involved in a confrontation with police outside the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday night.

Their passports have been withheld.

Some police officers sustained minor injuries in separate incidents before the game won by Madrid. Video posted on social media showed fans attacking police.

UEFA recently ordered Legia to play its upcoming home game against Madrid in an empty stadium as punishment for violence and racist behavior during a previous Champions League match.

UEFA also fined the Polish club in 80,000 euros ($90,000).
