Former Colombian international Diego Osorio has allegedly been caught trying to smuggle over 1kg of cocaine, allegedly hidden in his underwear, from Colombia to Spain on Thursday.

The 46-year-old former defender told agents who caught him in the Jose Maria Cordova airport in Rionegro that he was trying to 'pay off a debt'.

The 1.145kg cache of cocaine, which has an estimated street value of around £40,000, was allegedly concealed in Osorio's underwear as he attempted to catch a flight to Spain.

Osorio, who spent the most of his career at Medellin's Atletico Nacional, was heading home to Madrid when he was stopped by police.

The defender represented Colombia at the 1992 Olympic Games and in the 1991 and 1993 Copa Americas.
