New Zealand grinds its way to 135-3 against India

KOLKATA, India (AP) " Chasing 376, New Zealand reached 135-3 at tea on the fourth day of the second test against India.

Tom Latham (74) and Luke Ronchi (9) were unbeaten at the break.

India struck early in the post-lunch session, with R Ashwin (2-62) trapping Martin Guptill (24) lbw. Then, Latham contributed 49 runs for the second wicket with Henry Nicholls (24).

Latham faced 144 deliveries, hitting eight fours. He had brought up his ninth test 50 off 88 balls, and in doing so helped New Zealand bring up the 100-mark comfortably. They need another 241 runs for victory.
