FRISCO, Texas (AP) " Colorado's Dominique Badji scored and goalkeeper Tim Howard made some key saves while keeping a clean sheet as the Rapids won 1-0 at Dallas on Saturday to close the gap between the top two teams in Major League Soccer's Western Conference to five points.
The Rapids had gone four games without a win and Dallas had not lost at home all season, and the surprise result gave Colorado hope of catching the Texan team with seven games to play in the regular season.
Badji took a throw-in on the left flank, beat a defender and blasted a right footer past the goalkeeper and into the lower-left corner in the 52nd minute.
Howard made two important saves in the closing minutes and repeatedly denied Dallas, which outshot Colorado 17-6, including 7-1 on target.
PORTLAND TIMBERS 1, REAL SALT LAKE 0
Fanendo Adi scored the only goal and Portland celebrated its 100th consecutive regular-season sellout with a victory over Real Salt Lake.
In the 12th minute, Darlington Nagbe took a shot from just outside the penalty area that was blocked by a defender. The ball bounced right to Adi who touched the ball wide, paused, and then unleashed a shot past the goalkeeper for his 14th goal of the season.
Portland remained in the final playoff position in the Western Conference, a point ahead of Vancouver, while RSL stayed third.
PHILADELPHIA UNION 1, MONTREAL IMPACT 1
Montreal's Matteo Mancosu headed in an 88th minute equalizer to give the Impact a 1-1 draw at Philadelphia.
Hernan Bernardello crossed in a diagonal chip pass and Donny Toia flicked it along through the middle of the defense to set up Mancosu, who is on loan at Montreal from Bolognia.
Tranquillo Barnetta had opened the scoring in the 45th minute for Philadelphia with a shot from 25 yards.
The Union remained three points ahead of Montreal in fourth and fifth in the East.
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 3, NEW YORK CITY 1
New England moved within a point of the playoff places with a 3-1 win against New York City.
Juan Agudelo and Lee Nguyen scored in the first half for the Revolution. While Frank Lampard pulled a goal back for NYC early in the second half, Diego Fagundez restored the two goal buffer when he beat three defenders and scored in the 58th minute.
The loss cost NYC top spot in the East, falling two points behind Toronto.

Toronto took over top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 2-1 win at Chicago, with Jozy Altidore scoring the opening goal and setting up the second.
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 1, SEATTLE SOUNDERS 1
Seattle's Nicolas Lodeiro scored in the 80th minute to give the Sounders a draw at San Jose, with both teams missing out on the win they craved to boost their playoff hopes.
COLUMBUS CREW 1, VANCOUVER WHITECAPS 3
Vancouver recovered from conceding the opening goal and won 3-1 at Columbus to move within one points of the playoff places in the Western Conference.
