A proposal for a two-tier system in test cricket has been shelved for now.

The International Cricket Council has pulled the plans following a meeting of its chief executives committee in Dubai.

Six full member nations were reportedly in favour, including New Zealand Cricket, but reports say the consensus was to take it off the table.

A vague statement has been released from the ICC which says a test champion playoff every two years is being considered.
