Tom Walsh has set a new New Zealand and Oceania outdoor record with victory at the Diamond League event in Paris.

The Rio shot put bronze medallist has thrown 22 metres exactly to break the mark.

Walsh's big throw came in the final round, after earlier breaking his former personal best and national mark with 21.81 in the second round.

Walsh claimed the win over Olympic champion Ryan Crouser by just a centimetre.
