The Rio Olympics are officially over for the New Zealand team with a record haul of 18 medals.

Overall the New Zealand team finished with five more medals than the previous best effort - 13 at both Barcelona 1992 and London 2012.

Four gold medals were achieved with Lisa Carrington, Mahe Drysdale and Hamish Bond and Eric Murray defending their Olympic titles while Peter Burling and Blair Tuke went one better after a silver at the London Olympics.

It was also a record haul of silver medals for the New Zealand team, eight of the nine going to females or female teams.

Outside of the medals, Nikki Hamblin captured the hearts of the sporting world when she collided with American runner Abbey D'Agostino in the 5000m heats. Before picking each other up and completing the race.

But what was your top sporting moment from the last 16 days? Vote below.
