Rio Olympics 2016: While you were sleeping - day 12

Lisa Carrington has safely negotiated her way through to the final of her second canoe sprint event of the Rio Olympics.

Chasing the rare feat of two gold medals in one Summer Games, Carrington looked comfortable in both her heat and semifinal, despite a second place finish in the latter.

The only other Kiwis in action overnight were Andrea Kilday in the opening round of the women's 49kg taekwondo and Angie Petty in the women's 800m heats.

Unfortunately, both women failed to progress past their opening appearances of the Games.

Elsewhere in Rio, a senior international Olympic official was taken to hospital after police came to his hotel to arrest him as part of a probe into ticket scalping.

Michael Phelps has had to play stylist for a day in helping fellow swimmer Katy Ledecky arrange all of her medals for a Sports Illustrated photoshoot.

Finally, a Brazilian judge has ordered the passports of American swimmers Ryan Lochte and James Feigen be seized as Police investigate their claim they were robbed at gunpoint during the Games.

In progress/still to come:

Golf: Women's individual stroke play - Lydia Ko, from 2.09am
