Tim Cahill comes home to A-League, signs with Melbourne City

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) " Australia's leading international goal scorer Tim Cahill has signed with Melbourne City for what will be a belated first appearance in the country's domestic league.

Melbourne City said Thursday that Cahill had signed a two-year contract which will see him end his playing career with the A-League team, then take up a coaching role from 2019.

Cahill, who turned down an offer to re-sign with Chinese club Hangzhou Greentown last month, has played 91 matches for the Socceroos since 2004, scoring 47 goals.

The 36-year-old Cahill played 226 Premier League games with Everton, scoring 56 goals, after playing more than 200 matches for Millwall.

He moved to the MLS's New York Red Bulls in 2012, then played a year with Shanghai Shenhua before moving to Hangzhou.
