Test spinner O'Keefe fined for bad behavior

SYDNEY (AP) " Cricket Australia has fined test spinner Stephen O'Keefe 10,000 Australian dollars ($7,650) for breaching its code of behavior after allegations he verbally abused police, security guards and staff at a Sydney hotel.

O'Keefe recently returned home from Australia's tour to Sri Lanka with a hamstring injury. He was issued an infringement notice by New South Wales police for offensive behavior after Saturday's incident at the suburban Steyn Hotel.

Cricket Australia on Monday said O'Keefe was guilty of a level two breach of its Code of Behavior and would be required to undergo counseling.

In a statement, O'Keefe said "I know I failed to uphold the high standards expected ... and apologize to all concerned. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept the sanction handed to me by Cricket Australia."
