Canadian women open Olympics by dominating China 90-68

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) " Tamara Tatham scored 20 points and hit all four of her 3-pointers as Canada beat China 90-68 Saturday, the first day of Olympic women's group play.

Lizanne Murphy added 12 points, Miah-Marie Langlois had 11 and Miranda Ayim 10. Canada shot very well from outside, hitting 10 of 15 (67 percent).

Xiaojia Chen opened the game with a 3-pointer for China and finished with 12 points. Nan Chen scored 13 points.

Canada answered with the next six points and never trailed again as the Canadians led 37-27 at halftime. The Canadians built that lead to as much as 53-38 on a pair of free throws by guard Kia Nurse, a junior at UConn, before running away from China in the fourth quarter.

Tatham's 3-pointer pushed the lead to 20, and Canada led by as much as 24 in the fourth, during which fans started doing the wave.
