Triathlon New Zealand are emphasising the confidence they have in their duo of Rio-bound women.

Despite qualifying three quota places, Tri NZ are only sending Andrea Hewitt and Nicky Samuels to the Games.

High performance director Graeme Maw says it would've been great to have all three filled, but no one else reached the set standard.

He says the athletes selected have the "tool box" to deal with the Rio course. He believes Hewitt has proven pedigree as a medallist on the world circuit, but the others have the potential to be competitive.
