Taranaki Mountainairs guard Houston O'Riley could be facing a lengthy stint off the court following an ugly punch on Hawke's Bay Hawks guard Willie Stinnett.

O'Riley was seen punching Stinnett in the first quarter of Saturday's NBL match though no action was taken.

However a video uploaded on Facebook page "NZ Hoops" shows the incident.

Hawks General Manager Jay Bratschi says while it's certain O'Riley should face disciplinary action, he's unsure what the extent of it will be.

He says it just isn't something you'd expect to see in the NBL.

Stinnett received a concussion and haemorrhaging in the eye as a result of the punch.
