Unwavering confidence from national sevens coach Sir Gordon Tietjens over Sonny Bill Williams' participation at the Rio Olympics.

Williams has drawn criticism three world series events into his sevens career, with former All Black Murray Mexted saying he simply isn't suited to the short form game.

However, Tietjens says Williams is still developing, and is well on track to peak in time for Rio.

DJ Forbes is skipping this week's tournament in Singapore to be rested, while Pita Ahki joins the growing list of injured players also on the way home.

Several replacements will join the team over the next couple of days.
