Martin Guptill's commanding Cricket World Cup form may not be enough to force a return to the Black Caps test squad for the upcoming tour of England.
Guptill's 547 runs saw him end as the tournament's leading run scorer, but he hasn't played a test match for almost two years.
Black Caps coach Mike Hesson said they're looking at their options ahead of naming the squad this weekend.
"That'll be discussed," he said of Guptill's possible involvement. "They're different formats and we've got a pretty settled, successful test side at the moment, but certainly Martin will be considered, absolutely."
He said everyone works on their game to play as much as they can for New Zealand, and Guptill was no exception.
"It's a pretty exciting prospect, pretty exciting 12 months with a group of players playing so well."
Throughout his career Guptill hasn't been able to translate his good one-day international form into test match success.
The statistics tell the story. In ODI cricket, Guptill has scored 3739 runs at an average of 39.77. In the 31 tests he has played, he has scored 1718 runs at a less-than-flattering 26.92.
Guptill's last test outing was against England in Leeds in 2013, a match New Zealand lost by 247 runs.
The Black Caps are scheduled to play two tests against England at Lord's and Headingly in May.
