INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Second-ranked Ohio State was upset by Michigan State on Saturday, opening the door to No. 3 Auburn to likely advance to college football's title game after its dismissal of Missouri.
Top-ranked Florida State also clinched its spot in the national title game by routing Duke University 45-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game its 12th win this season by at least 27 points. It was the second straight ACC title for the Seminoles (13-0).
Michigan State's Connor Cook threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Josiah Price with 11:41 left in the fourth quarter and the 10th-ranked Spartans held on to shock Ohio State 34-24 in the Big Ten Conference title game.
Ohio State (12-1) had the nation's longest active winning streak end at 24 as coach Urban Meyer suffered his first loss since taking over in Columbus.
"If you're asking me to measure the levels of hurt, I'm not sure I can do that," Meyer said. "It's going to haunt all of us, I imagine, for a little while. But that's part of the game."
The Spartans (12-1) led 17-0 after 21 minutes, then gave up the next 24 points before scoring the final 17.
Michigan State sealed the victory, and its probable trip to the Rose Bowl, with Jeremy Langford's late 26-yard TD run.
Ohio State's loss means Auburn, also 12-1 on the season, is almost certainly headed to the BCS championship game in Pasadena, California, on Jan. 6. The Tigers captured the Southeastern Conference championship with a wild 59-42 win over No. 5 Missouri.
Tre Mason ran for 304 yards and four touchdowns and Auburn set an SEC championship game record with 677 yards, including 545 on the ground.
Mason had scoring runs of 7, 3 and 1 yards before bursting up the middle on a 13-yard TD that clinched the victory with 4:22 remaining. He carried the ball a staggering 46 times, boosting his long-shot candidacy for the Heisman trophy.
"We're playing our best football right now," said Auburn coach Gus Malzahn. "I don't know if any other team can say that."
Florida State certainly could, given the way it's dominating its opponents at the moment.
Heisman Trophy favorite Jameis Winston threw three touchdown passes and ran for a 17-yard score in the Seminoles' easy victory over Duke. Winston was 19 of 32 for 330 yards two days after prosecutors decided not to press charges against him in a sexual assault case.
"This whole week has been very high emotion," Winston said. "We wanted to win this championship so bad. We were looking forward to having an undefeated season."
In other games involving ranked teams, No. 7 Stanford ensured itself a spot in the Rose Bowl with a 38-14 win over No. 11 Arizona State in the Pac-12 Conference title game.
Tyler Gaffney ran for 133 yards and scored three touchdowns in the first half, helping Stanford build a 28-7 lead early in the second quarter.
Kevin Hogan threw for 277 yards and a touchdown, Ty Montgomery scored two touchdowns and Stanford held Arizona State to 311 total yards to earn a spot in a BCS bowl for the fourth straight season.
No. 9 Baylor, meanwhile, won its first Big 12 Conference title and earned a Fiesta Bowl berth with a 30-10 win over No. 23 Texas.
Bryce Petty threw touchdown passes on the first two drives of the second half in a matchup that became a de facto Big 12 championship game after No. 6 Oklahoma State lost to Oklahoma earlier in the day.
Baylor wrapped up its first 11-win season and first outright title in any league since the 1980 Southwest Conference title.
Oklahoma State saw its conference title and BCS bowl game hopes dashed in its 33-24 loss to its in-state rivals.
Blake Bell threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Saunders with 19 seconds left to cap a 66-yard drive and lead Oklahoma to victory.
Central Florida's Blake Bortles threw for 242 yards and ran for two touchdowns as the No. 15 Knights celebrated a BCS bowl bid already in hand by rallying to beat Southern Methodist 17-13 in front of just a few hundred fans who braved an ice storm.
The Knights captured a school-record eighth straight win and the outright title in the first year of the American Athletic Conference.
Fresno State's Derek Carr threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns to help the No. 24 Bulldogs beat Utah State 24-17 in the inaugural Mountain West conference title game.
