New Zealand test opener Hamish Rutherford became part of Essex cricket history for all the wrong reasons today, as his English county side were dismissed for 20, their lowest total ever.

It was a horror debut for Rutherford, who recorded a three-ball duck as Essex were rolled in their second innings in just 14.2 overs and 68 minutes by Lancashire at home.

Lancashire went on to win the second division match by an innings and 105 runs after making 398 in their first innings in reply to Essex's 273.

It only registered as the sixth-lowest total in first-class history, but that won't be much consolation for Rutherford who also only managed five in his first innings to cap a very forgettable match.

The disastrous innings included six ducks (two golden) and a top score of 10 by opener Jaik Mickleburgh.
