Play of the day: Cheerleader hit in head by cricket ball

There are only two rules that a cheerleader should follow when waiting to perform at a cricket match: smile, and always keep an eye on the ball.

This unfortunate young woman broke one of the cardinal rules at an IPL match between the Delhi Daredevils and the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and paid a heavy price with a bruised bonnet.

It's actually quite surprising this doesn't happen more often, with today's cricket balls fired high into crowded stadiums more frequently, and with more force than ever before.

But the key to survival is paying attention, and though this cheerleaders' injuries do not look serious, you get the feeling she will keep a closer eye on proceedings in the future.

Or she will simply never return to a cricket match in her life.
