Marina Erakovic has made a winning return following a thumb injury, advancing to the second round of the U.S. National Indoor Tennis Championships in Memphis.

The New Zealand number one beat German Annika Beck 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 at the US$235,000 WTA event.

Erakovic will play Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson in the next round. Arvidsson defeated Erakovic in last year's final.

In the doubles tomorrow, Erakovic and her British partner Heather Watson play American Melanie Oudin and Kazakhstan's Ksenia Pervak.
