All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen is expected to be granted a one-year option on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Guardian reported yesterday that Younes Kaboul, William Gallas, Michael Dawson, Steven Caulker and Nelsen are all expected back at the club next season as centre back options.

Nelsen has made eight appearances, scoring once for the club since signing from Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer in February.

He earned the praise of manager Harry Redknapp following his goal against Bolton which helped guide Tottenham into the FA Cup semi-final.

"I just think he's a great professional and a good player," Redknapp said.

"I couldn't believe I got him on a free [transfer] to be honest. I just thought he would be an amazing player to bring to the club. He is a player I chased for years, I've always thought he was top class. A great professional, great trainer, fantastic person."

Nelsen has missed the All Whites current OFC Nations Cup campaign following an ankle injury he picked up toward the end of the season.
