New Zealand's Emerging Players cricket team containing recent internationals Peter Fulton and Tim Southee suffered an embarrassing 190-run defeat to the Australian Institute of Sport in Brisbane yesterday.

Chasing 301 to win off 50 overs at Peter Burge Oval, New Zealand were dismissed for 110 in the 31st over in their second match of the quadrangular tournament also involving India and South Africa.

After Fulton was removed for 12 by former Australian paceman Shaun Tait, Tasmanian allrounder James Faulkner ripped the heart out of the New Zealand middle order with figures of three for four off five overs. Central Districts allrounder George Worker was the pick of a poor batting effort with 32 until he was last out, caught behind.

Fulton sent the AIS in to bat on winning the toss, but his bowlers couldn't contain New South Wales allrounder Steve Smith who plundered 125 not out off 114 balls. Southee was the most successful but suffered from Smith's late onslaught, ending with figures of two for 74 off 10 overs, while Neil Wagner and Tarun Nethula took one wicket apiece as the AIS posted 300 for six.

New Zealand lost their tournament opener, a Twenty20 match against South Africa Emerging Players, by six wickets off the penultimate delivery on Monday. Their next match is a 50-over contest against South Africa in Brisbane tomorrow.
