Yesterday, I had my last cigarette after 28 years. Giving up smoking publicly, and with my employer, is a double-edged sword. The diary I have to keep allows me to admit if I fall off the wagon, but I have no desire or intention of doing so.
Covering Fashion Week for our Spy pages will be a true test. I only hope I'm not bitchy, and keep a smiley face - my e-ciggy should save me there.
For me, the biggest appeal of giving up is saving money - about $8320 this year, and going up every year.
Not smelling also has huge appeal. I have to accept there has been a sea change in social attitudes. Smoking is not cool. I have been left off a dinner party list or two because I smoke.
So, when you see me out, check if it's an e-fag I'm smoking before you tell me off.
From today, I should be smelling of roses - and with extra cash in hand.
