Being a woman has its disadvantages
A reader writes: "My sister's husband died recently so she rang the insurance company to remove her late husband's name from the paperwork and put hers there instead. She was told that as men did more maintenance around the home, she would have to pay an increased premium as she was a woman. The fact that her husband had been in a wheelchair for the past 14 years and she had been the one to do all the maintenance had no bearing at all. So the increased premium? $1 a month."
Pink underwear horror
Andrew Walls underwent a colonoscopy in Delaware. When he woke from the anaesthetic, he was wearing pink women's underwear. In a lawsuit he's just filed, he's claiming the pink underwear caused him "severe emotional stress" as well as mental anguish, lost wages and loss of earning capacity. (Source: Weird Universe)
Translation goes awry
When the blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy was translated into Chinese, they cut some corners. The title shown in China translates to Interplanetary Unusual Attacking Team. The insults have been changed to endearments, and other lines just make no sense at all. Some examples include: Each time a character was meant to insult Rocket by calling him "rodent" or "weasel" it was translated into "small raccoon", a term of endearment. Star-Lord calling Ronan "turd blossom" translated to "big face". Gamora's "I will not succumb to your pelvic sorcery!" became "I will not succumb to your rhetoric sorcery!" (Via Neatorama)
Having a moan over nothing
Ron from Albany could not believe a person grizzling about having to buy a 10-pack of small paper envelopes when they needed only one. "Do they moan when they have to buy a pack of 20 biscuits when they only want to eat one? Or having to buy a box of 50 matches when they only need to use one? Or buying 500g of butter when the recipe only calls for 75?"
