It was Santa central at the Rotorua Village Green when about 90 people took part in the annual KidsCan Santa Run, raising around $2000 for the cause.
The Rotorua Association of Triathlon and Multisport Inc (RATs) annual Santa Run started at 6.15pm.
Each entrant received a free Santa suit as part of their entry fee.
RATs vice-president Carol Harwood said proceeds from the event would go to KidsCan, ensuring all Kiwi kids affected by poverty could look forward to a brighter future.
"For us it's the fun factor, seeing the kids dress up and seeing the smiles on their faces.
"KidsCan helps a lot of kids and schools so it's good to give back. For us, as a club, it's about everyone getting out and doing something as a family and enjoying it."
She said the Santas all made it around the track just before "the heavens opened up".
"It was yet another Great KidsCan Santa Run for 2016 with an awesome bunch of enthusiastic children, parents, tourists and a dog, all for a wonderful cause," she said.
As of yesterday morning, about 70 people had already registered, she said.
KidsCan Rotorua health champion Becky Awhimate said the event was awesome.
"This is the second Santa Run that I have come too. It's really great to see the support we have within the community.
"Any support we get for KidsCan is greatly appreciated," she said.
Lynne Kiernan joined the race for the first time this year with her daughter Hannah, 9.
"It's a fun thing to do, it's good for the kids. It's definitely a good cause. This is our first year. It's a good community thing and good for families to get involved with," she said.
