Geyserland Darts Association finally have their hands on the Neville Powhero Trophy again.
The Rotorua club, who won the trophy back in 2005, have it safely locked away in the trophy cabinet after winning the New Council Darts Associations competition in the Bay of Plenty.
The four-player team of Dave Webb, Sandra Webb, Brian Corbett and Herbie Nathan won the round robin annual tournament after securing eight out of 10 wins last weekend, against fellow teams from Rotorua plus Whakatane, Tauranga and Waihi.
Geyserland player Dave Webb, who was in the 2005 winning side along with Nathan, said it was made all the more special to take the trophy off Waihi, who had previously held it for 12 years.
"We are so happy, and so many teams have tried and failed to take it from Waihi," he said. "The whole club is stoked. Herbie [Nathan] pulled out couple of 180s and really showed his quality and everyone played really well together. We finished key legs at key times."
Stephen Smith the Geyserland Darts Association club captain said it was an amazing achievement.
"This is a very prestigious trophy in the region and just shows how this club is going from strength to strength.
"It's nice to see all the hard work paying off and pays justice to what we are trying to do here going forward."
Geyserland sent three other teams to compete this year - one finishing in third behind second-placed Whakatane, demonstrating the strength and depth at the local club, .
The coveted trophy is named after Matetu (Nev) Powhero - manager of the first Maori darts touring team to Australia in 1966.
Geyserland Darts Association is based at Crates and Cues Bar in Rotorua and has a club night on Tuesdays from 7pm.
