There will be an unfamiliar buzz at Central training this week, after the Rotorua club registered their first victory.
Central have looked like a club in tatters this season but managed to get their first win of the season on Saturday against Mangakino 22-20 at Puketawhero Park.
It is a big boost for the club who celebrate their 65th anniversary in October.
The side won the reserve grade last year and were promoted back into the Bay of Plenty District Rugby League premier grade this season.
The club had lost six straight games. But now they have salvaged something from the season and can realistically finish above Mangakino.
Mangakino were also promoted to the premier grade this season and have shown plenty of character to push some of the top sides.
But their main focus will be to avoid the wooden spoon, which is turning into a two-horse race between Mangakino and Central.
Bay of Plenty District Rugby League results on Saturday:
Premier - Taupo 30 Ngongotaha 20, Pacific 62 Forestland 10, Central 22 Mangakino 20.
Reserve grade - Reporoa 32 Pikiao Snrs 12, Pacific 56 Taupo 18.
