Social networks are one way of getting in touch (or stalking) people or celebrities who we would not have any other contact with.
A colleague of mine recently joined Twitter and quite quickly became addicted to the social network.
Shortly after joining, she confessed she was spending several hours a night glued to her Twitter feed.
This particular colleague already had a Facebook page but had previously shown no interest in Twitter so, after quizzing her as to why she joined, she told us it was so she could follow her favourite singer.
The singer has a managed Facebook fan page and my colleague believed she could make contact with the singer via his Twitter account.
Needless to say she has tweeted the singer several times and often retweets his comments. The shine was soon fading when the singer didn't retweet or reply to any of her tweets.
The singer recently announced he would be taking part in a tweet chat where he would attempt to answer questions sent in by fans.
Much to my colleague's disappointment, her question wasn't answered.
Unfortunately, Twitter hasn't yet lived up to her expectations but there are several people out there who make the most of "joining the conversation".
Some fans do get a lot out of following their favourite musicians/singers on Twitter. Every song from Demi Lovato's fourth studio album, Demi, was premiered online far sooner than fans anticipated - but only when those fans tweeted like crazy.
Lovato challenged fans to tweet the song name in the form of a hashtag. For example, #WithoutTheLove is track three on the album. Fans swarmed Twitter to promote the hashtag and subsequently unlock the YouTube video for Without The Love.
Every song has been unlocked and every corresponding hashtag for each song became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.
