We love it when Rotorua has major events in the community and we love being able to cover them as well.
We enjoy being able to share moments from these events with the rest of Rotorua.
Take last week's Rotorua Primary Schools Maori Festival.
This week I received a phone call from a parent very upset that her child's school did not feature in The Daily Post picture page on Monday. Nor did it in a story we covered last week. The mother could not understand how we could miss out this particular long-standing school. There may have been other parents in the community who felt the same way.
I explained to the caller there were other news stories and events on and we were unable to commit to having a photographer at a week-long event from start to finish.
This meant we were unable to take a photo of every school performance and use that photo in our paper.
Had we done that, it would have either meant extra long days for our photographers or missing out on having a photographer working during the day - when most news photos need to be taken.
What we did manage however, was having a photographer cover two evenings of the festival.
Not every school can be covered at every event, but over time and a variety of events we give fair coverage across all our local schools.
It's great that parents and teachers are passionate about their schools. We'd like to think we are too, in our own way.
We've celebrated the successful, the innovative, the interesting and the artistic best at schools across the city, district and region.
And we'll continue to.
