It will be a special day for the Rotary Club of Rotorua when it celebrates the milestone of its 90th birthday.
The club's charter date was December 21 1927.
To celebrate, the club is holding an event on December 11 at the Rotorua Golf Club, which is where they hold their meetings.
Guest speakers will be John Heaton who has been a member for more than 50 years, and Bill Boyd who is one of only two New Zealanders to have been a president of Rotary International.
The anniversary celebration is being combined with a Christmas theme, so there will also be a golf putting competition and a Christmas quiz.
President Russell Burton says there will also be a special surprise happening.
He says their rotary club is one of the longest running ones in the region.
Russell says most of the presidents from the other rotary clubs in the region are coming along to help celebrate.
There will also be present and past members attending, along with Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick.
The cutting of a cake will take place by three hands - the most recent member, the longest serving member and Bill Boyd.
They are hoping to get about 80 people attend the celebration.
Russell says the club has put a lot of time and effort into youth over the years, and he thinks they have a strong fellowship.
"I think one of the big things about rotary is the fellowship - supporting each other and sharing experiences."
Past president and archivist Tony Baker says it is a milestone for any rotary club to reach 90 years without any hiccups.
He says it is interesting to think that when the club started Rotorua had about 7800 inhabitants.
"Rotorua has grown quite a lot and the club has grown with it."
He says the club did a lot of work in the early days in Rotorua, helping with getting it up and running.
Russell and Tony the celebration will represent 90 years of fellowship and hundreds of thousands of dollars being pumped into the community to help support it.
