Two people have minor injuries after two cars collided on Tarawera Rd, near Rotorua's Buried Village.
A police media spokesman said police were called to the scene, between Mead Rd and Te Mu Rd at 1.22pm.
Ambulance, police and fire attended the scene.
Rotorua Fire Service Senior Station Officer Jim Prescott said the crash was "fairly minor in the scheme of things".
He said the collision happened as a driver was turning into The Buried Village.
"The airbags in one car went off, and they both had minor muscular skeletal injuries," Mr Prescott said.
Two people were taken to Rotorua Hospital with minor injuries.
General manager of The Buried Village, Mike Gibbons, said a number of near accidents happened outside the site.
"We definitely support following up on the proposals that we have made trying to lower the speed, particularly on the section of road in front of us," he said.
Mr Gibbons was proud of the way his team responded after today's incident.
"They got out there and provided assistance straight away, waved down traffic and waited for the ambulance and police to arrive."
Rotorua Lakes Council water, transport and waste director Stavros Michael said three-yearly speed limit reviews were currently underway.
The stretch of road from Tikitapu to The Landing at Tarawera was one of those being assesed.
"There is quite a bit of work involved in assessing whether a speed limit should be changed including measuring the average actual speed and then, as per NZTA guidelines, taking a raft of factors into account, including practicality of enforcement," he said.
"Once the evaluations are completed we will develop recommendations for council to consider."
