The number of people who have gone through Rotorua Airport this summer represent a "solid result" for both the airport and the city's economy.
Rotorua Airport chief executive Mark Gibb said there had been 115,174 passenger movements through Rotorua Airport in the year to date - July 1 to December 31 2016.
This was 4 per cent up on the same period last year, he said.
He said Rotorua Airport remained on track to facilitate 250,000 passenger movements for their full financial year ending June 30 2017.
"We are seeing continued strengthening of the Rotorua-Christchurch sector. This is extremely pleasing as development of this sector has been a priority over the summer season."
Mr Gibb said this all represented a solid result for Rotorua Airport Ltd and the broader Rotorua economy.
Air New Zealand senior external communications consultant Hannah Searle said Air New Zealand was continuing to grow capacity to Rotorua and would operate about 147,000 seats to and from the port this summer season (November 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017).
This was up more than 9000 seats on this period last year, she said.
She said strong demand for their Christchurch-Rotorua services was a factor in this growth.
"Over the past three years we've consistently grown capacity by 6 per cent year on year, and we expect to operate 325,000 seats to and from Rotorua this financial year, up 11.7 per cent on the 2015 financial year."
Destination Rotorua consumer marketing manager Tom Worsp said the Rotorua visitor economy continued to go from strength to strength and Rotorua Airport was a vital cog in the region's continued success.
He said Auckland was Rotorua's largest market from a domestic perspective, but it was important to maintain a high level of air connectivity and accessibility to other main ports around New Zealand.
Mr Worsp said Destination Rotorua was looking at other centres around the country to provide future growth for domestic visitors to the region, and Rotorua Airport was a vital partner.
"It is great to see its numbers continue to grow and we look forward to greeting more Kiwis from around the country as they fly in for a Rotorua getaway."
