A group of locals are doing a last push to raise funds before heading off on a life-changing trip overseas to help those in need.
Four locals, who are staff and volunteers at the Rotorua Youth Centre, will spend three weeks helping people in Angeles City, in the Philippines.
They set off for the trip on February 16.
Alan Solomon, Rachel Tatton, Bobby Howard and Steve Holmes will team up with a small group in the Philippines, run by a pastor, who go out to feed, clothe and provide vitamins to people in the community.
They will work with children, play games and feed them in slum areas.
Steve Holmes said so far they had raised about $1500 to take over and were hoping to take $1000 more.
The money would go towards resources such as food, neighbourhood meals, footwear, stationary and activities such as colouring in.
"We just want to find a need and try to fill it."
Mr Holmes said the group in the Philippines, who they would team up with, had a real need for transport to get to the different communities they helped, so it would be great to leave them some money for this purpose too.
On the group's website, Golden Heart, they had been selling hand-made bracelets, which had been doing well with about 45 sold so far, he said.
He said they had received support from friends and family, and were doing a last push by having a "Summer Send-Off Session".
This will be a gospel concert on Saturday at the Rotorua Youth Centre from 6pm.
Coffee and cake will be available and the concert will be free to attend, but people can donate if they want to.
Mr Holmes encouraged people to come along, bring a picnic, support local talent and get behind what they thought was a great cause.
He said they were very excited about the trip - "we just can't wait and are really looking forward to it".
