Donations are still flowing in for the Rotorua Daily Post Salvation Army Foodbank Christmas Appeal with only days to go until Christmas.
Rotorua Regency Park Estate Lifestyle Retirement Village residents have pulled together and collected three boxes of goodies for the Sallies.
Glenys Glynn said one of the other residents came up with the idea but she was busy so she and another resident, Joyce Whiting, took charge and gathered food and presents.
"We knew the Salvation Army was doing a food drive and we wanted to help. Sometimes if you just give one or two things you feel like you should give more so it's nice to come together to give more.
"It's especially nice to give at this time of the year as it's the children who are affected more," she said.
Mrs Whiting said it had been a community effort.
"We sent notices around to let people know, people have just turned up and put things in the box," she said.
Village owner Dennis Walsh said the residents loved to give, especially during the festive season.
"They encourage others to give and it's important to give at this time of the year," he said.
