Update:
A police spokeswoman said the 59-year-old motorcyclist had suffered numerous injuries, but they were not life threatening.
She said he had been taken to Rotorua Hospital.

Local woman Hayley McAdams saw the crash.
She told the Rotorua Daily Post the motorcyclist went flying in the air and "everyone immediately stopped to go help him".
"We all thought he was dead at first, then I heard him scream in pain," she said.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash at 9am. The Serious Crash Unit has been requested.

A Rotorua Daily Post reporter at the scene said both lanes were open but traffic was backed up.
She said it looked like three cars and a motorcycle were involved in the crash.
Police were controlling the flow of traffic, she said.

Emergency services are attending a serious crash involving a car and motorcycle on Te Ngae Rd, near Rotokawa Rd.
A police media spokeswoman said police were alerted to the crash at 9am.
She said ambulance was still on its way and the serious crash unit had been requested.
