Police say the community was never at risk during an incident in Taupo this morning during which the Armed Offenders Squad was used.

In a statement, police said at 9am they, with the help of the Tauranga Armed Offenders Squad (AOS), conducted an enquiry at a Tawa St address.

Police were looking for a man who had a probations warrant.

At the same time, the man arrived at the Taupo probations office to have the matter cleared.

"Police would like to thank members of the public for their patience while streets in the area were closed.

"Police would like to reassure the community that their safety was never at risk as this inquiry was carried out.

"AOS were only used as a precaution for the safety of staff."

A Taupo street was cordoned off this morning by police executing a search warrant on an address.

Acting Senior Sergeant Phil Edwards said police executed the warrant at Tawa St in the Hilltop suburb of Taupo.

An Armed Offenders Squad from Tauranga was called in to provide assistance.

The cordons are now lifted.
