Rotorua district councillor Mark Gould is the fifth person to announce they will be running for mayor of Rotorua in this year's election.
He said he is running because "he cares for the community".
However, he confirmed he will be running for both mayor and one of 10 seats on the Rotorua Lakes Council in October's elections.
Mr Gould will be taking on incumbent mayor Steve Chadwick, district councillor Rob Kent, Dr Reynold Macpherson and Rangimarie Kingi (Bosma) for the mayoral chains.
Nominations for mayoral candidates and council candidates open this Friday and end on Friday August 12.
Postal voting beings on Wednesday September 21 and ends on election day - October 8.
The Rotorua Daily Post is speaking with Mr Gould later today and a full story will be in tomorrow's paper.
