UPDATE:
One person has been extracted from the car and taken to Rotorua Hospital by ambulance.
A police spokeswoman said the cause had not been determined but it was a timely reminder to be wary of frosts making roads slippery as we move into the colder months.
EARLIER:
State Highway 33 near Okere Falls is still down to one lane with police, fire and ambulance at the scene of a serious crash.
A Rotorua Daily Post photographer at the scene said there was a single white sedan on the side of the road.
He said there was no major traffic build up, but the road was still down to one lane with police controlling traffic.

EARLIER:
Reports are coming in of a serious crash near Okere Falls on State Highway 33.
It is understood at least one person is trapped in their vehicle as emergency services make their way to the scene.
The crash happened near Okere Falls Rd.
People are advised to avoid travelling through the area if possible until the crash can be cleared.
