Two people have been taken to Rotorua Hospital following a crash near Lake Rotoiti.

The pair were injured in the single-car crash on State Highway 30 at 1.50pm.

St John centre operations manager Olive Taylor said a woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital by helicopter.

The BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the scene to assist St John Ambulance crews with the 52-year-old Kawerau woman.

She was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital with leg injuries. A hospital spokeswoman said the woman has been admitted and was in a stable condition.

A man in his 30s was treated and discharged, the spokeswoman said.

Fire crews from Rotorua attended along with ambulance crews from Rotorua and Kawerau.

Senior Sergeant Karl Konlechner said the car was carrying three people when it rolled into a bank.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
