The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Matata at 1pm yesterday where a 27-year-old male motorbike rider, who was at an organised enduro ride, hit a tree, causing serious chest and abdominal injuries.

He was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before being flown to Waikato hospital for further treatment.

The helicopter was called due to the location and the seriousness of the injuries that required immediate hospital care.
