The Maori Volcanics Showband is set to perform in Rotorua tonight - with organisers hoping for a strong turnout.

The band will perform at Kalah Bar in Ngongotaha with tickets available from the venue for $25.

Promotions manager Annette Paki said The Maori Volcanics were one of the most famous and longest running of the Maori showbands and were still wowing audiences.

The showband features icons Mahora and Billy Peters who have performed extensively overseas. The pair have become icons in New Zealand and globally by continuing the tradition of The Maori Volcanics for more than 40 years.

Ms Paki said she hoped for a good showing at the Rotorua performance.

She said the concert would be full of good old school music and described it as "part theatre, part cabaret with several costume changes".

Ms Paki said there would be Arabian dances, Hawaiian hula and tributes to "the greats" who started their careers with The Maori Volcanics.

She said the crowds varied from older people who had been fans of The Maori Volcanics for many years through to youngsters who remembered being taken along by their parents.

"I'm expecting Te Arawa people would come out because this is The Maori Volcanics Showband."
