UPDATE: Baby dies suddenly in Putaruru home


UPDATE: Police have named the ten-month-old who drowned at a house in Putaruru last night as Elliott Nicholas Allen Whitehead.

Fire and ambulance staff attended the scene but could not resuscitate Elliott.

A scene examination will take place at the Putaruru residence this morning.

A post mortem is currently underway.

EARLIER: A 10-month-old baby died in a suspected drowning at a Putaruru home last night.

Police were called to the home about 8pm.

Ambulance staff attended but were not able to revive the baby.

A Northern police spokesman told the New Zealand Herald the tragedy involved a drowning.

No further details regarding the deceased or family are available at present.

The scene remained closed overnight while police conducted a scene examination.

The death has been referred to the coroner.
